Premji is an Indian business tycoon and philanthropist who is the Chairman of Wipro Limited, a leader in the software industry. He is currently the second wealthiest Indian (worth US $21 billion) as well as being the richest Indian Muslim. The Azim Premji Foundation supports programs that reach more than 2.5 million children.
He made the country’s single-largest donation, transferring economic ownership of 34% of his shares in Wipro worth $7.5 billion to Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives and Azim Premji Trust. In 2011, he was awarded Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award by the Government of India.
