André Carson is one of only two Muslims–the other being Keith Ellison–serving in the US Congress. He was first elected to Congress in 2008, and is now serving his fifth two-year term. Congressman Carson is the Ranking Member on the Emerging Threats Subcommittee on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and plays a vital role in ensuring the United States has the tools and resources needed to identify, track, and defeat dangerous threats. He is also a rising member of House leadership. During the current 115th Congress, Carson serves as Senior Whip for the House Democratic Caucus, sits on the powerful Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, and is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus’ Executive Leadership Team.
